This program explores the idea of borders and borderlessness through performance and poetic documentary forms. The films unravel the arbitrariness of colonial notions of borders and laws when it comes to not only land, but also sexualities and bodies. Each film speaks to how the pervasive colonial eye roves and postures the everyday, while offering beautiful and pointed forms of resistance to oppressive systems.

Borderhole
Amber Bemak & Nadia Granados
Borderhole takes place on a mythical border area between Colombia and the United States. Filmmakers Amber Bemak and Nadia Granados investigate the relationship between North and South America through the lens of the American Dream and the illumination of multiple tensions in and around the border. Borderhole explores imperialism, globalization through pop music, gender mutation in an international context, and the choreography of women’s bodies in relation to the sociopolitical as well as broader ecosystems.
Illegal_the impact on the body
Jorge Lozano
This mid-length film from prolific Toronto filmmaker Jorge Lozano offers a compilation of histories of undocumented migrants in Canada: nomadic friends who quickly disappeared into new identities or were forcibly deported. There are approximately 200,000 undocumented migrants in Canada. This video is just a spark of their constant re-invention of freedom, endurance, and resistance.
