Disability justice can teach us not just about one particular group, but also about how society understands and discards those who are deemed to have less values in our community. Through the lens of disability justice, nationally-renowned activist Sarah Jama will examine how assumptions about how society is structured shape institutions and policies, and how we can make change in Ontario. This presentation will explore disability justice as the antithesis to capitalism through examples that include: disability theory, slavery, the medical industrial complex, abolition, the climate crisis, public health, sex, and white supremacy. Understanding these topics will equip us with the tools to begin to imagine the possibility of a world where disabled people are truly free and equal.
