June 17, 2017
11:30am – 5pm
Co-sponsored by the Feminist Art Gallery (FAG) and Pleasure Dome

** Note: This workshop is open only to women, trans, and nonbinary people

This hands-on workshop will dish movie making basics for the beginner. Jargon-free and fun! Everyone can make a movie. But not everyone can make your movie. Why not come down and learn about framing (and who amongst us hasn’t been framed?), how to see a face, camera tech, the art of listening and even make a little movie while you’re at it. We’re here to support you!

The workshop will begin with a brief introduction to (queer) experimental filmmaking with some short film examples to whet the appetite. After lunch, we will break into small groups to do some hands on shooting and work together to imagine ways we can queerly disrupt and expand cinematic expectations.

Local filmmakers Kami Chisholm, Thirza Cuthand, Christine Lucy Latimer, and Leslie Supnet will lead this workshop. Workshop participants will be encouraged to experiment at home after the workshop and come back to present their work on July 22 at Pleasure Dome’s special BBQ and open screening for women, trans, and nonbinary people.

A catered lunch with vegetarian and gluten free options from Ghazale will be provided.
