Even as you come of age, you may find yourself already burdened by your short history: the traumas, bad advice, and cultural brainwashing that life has offered you so far. Each film in this short-and-a-feature two-hander offers a dreamy escape hatch of sorts, an invitation to embrace both the joy and rage that lives within us in equal measure.
Brought to vivid life through clay animation, puppetry, and painting on glass, the short Mis-Angel follows a trans girl’s romantic fantasy with a beautiful stranger she meets at a bus stop. Through their imaginary dalliance, the girl’s negative self-image is shattered and she sees her body in a new, positive light.
In the trippy horror feature Lucid, however, a queer art student’s attempts to cure her creative block unleashes a monstrous negativity that rages at the family, minimum wage job, and patriarchal gatekeepers looming over her life. Shot on film and featuring a collage-like aesthetic, Lucid challenges us to embrace our abject feelings, which, like a haggard monster or a crazed slasher villain, can rip away at the genuine evils in our lives.

Biographies
Wyatt Carson is an artist & animator from Lawrence, Kansas. Their approach to making embraces experimentation and finds emotion through its expressive quality. Paint-on-glass has become their primary animation technique because of its fluidity and backlit glow, creating films that feel like a collection of living paintings. Wyatt’s goal is to tell stories that resonate with people and invoke an emotional response.
Deanna Milligan & Ramsey Fendall are the co-founders of Sublunar Films and the co-directors of Lucid (2025), a surreal, punk-infused psychological horror feature that world premiered at Fantasia and is set to screen at Sitges October 2025 and competing for a Noves Visions Award. Expanding Lucid from an acclaimed short into a feature, the duo transformed their own home into a film studio, embodying the fearless, resourceful spirit of DIY indie filmmaking. Milligan, a veteran Canadian actor with dozens of film and television credits is also a Leo-nominated director known for her visceral, emotionally charged storytelling rooted in the “beautiful grotesque.”
